Geology And Nature Of The Siena Grounds And Lakeshore

Overview

Join us as we explore the many diverse ecosystems of the Siena grounds—the lakeshore, woodlands, prairie, and wetlands all packed into one beautiful space.

During this day of exploration, we will learn about the geological movements that shaped the land and lake we love. We will also identify the various plant species and discuss their role in the environment as well as the differences between native, non-native, and invasive species.

Please wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for the day’s weather.

You can register and pay online by clicking the register button on the right, by calling the front desk at 262-898-2590 with a credit card number, or by mailing a check made out to “Siena Retreat Center.” Payment must be received to complete registration.

Please register by Monday, May 22. By registering early, you assist us in providing quality organization and administration of our retreats and programs. We want to be fully prepared for your arrival with adequate staffing, supplies, room arrangements, and meals. We make every effort to avoid canceling retreats and programs. However, most of these events require a minimum enrollment to move forward. Registering early can help assure that the retreats and programming you look forward to participating in can happen.

About the Facilitators

Colleen GrundyColleen Grundy

Colleen Grundy is a retired Silviculturist. She worked for the US Forest  Service from 1979 to 2012, serving in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Juneau, Alaska; the Tongass National Forest in  Ketchikan, Alaska; Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest in Washington; and Huron Manistee National Forest in Michigan. Colleen earned a bachelor’s degree in Forest Management from the Michigan Tech University and Silvicultural Certification from the University of Washington.

Mark BoruckiMark Borucki

Mark Borucki, MS, PG, is a geologist and specialist  in glacial geology with an emphasis on eastern Wisconsin and the stratigraphy exposed in the Lake Michigan bluffs in particular. He is nearing completion of his PhD work and is a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee and an ad hoc lecturer at the University of Wisconsin—Parkside.
