Contemporary Spirituality Program

Whether you are new to the awareness of  life as a spiritual journey or looking to renew or update your life-long spirituality, this new series will assist you in living an adult, aware spiritual life in the world today.

The series will take place on Thursday evenings, 6:30pm—8:30pm, and conclude with a day of reflection on Sunday, May 23, 2021.

Cost of $120 includes $55 non-refundable deposit, four evening sessions, and day of reflection.
Please register for the entire series.

This series will be presented virtually.  However, we are hoping to have the final May session in person, if possible.

What is Spirituality?
January 21, 2021

According to Irish author Diarmuid O'Murchu we live in a spiritually saturated universe. As a basis for this series we will begin by exploring contemporary definitions of spirituality from a variety of authors for insights into ways of engaging in our search for the sacred presence in our lives.

From this basis we will explore the four paths of Creation Spirituality, which takes a holistic approach that embraces healthy aspects of spiritualities of the past and the present, and aptly serves as a foundation for the future. Facilitated by Jim Gill.

Interspirituality: Exploring World Spiritual Traditions

There is a growing practice today of learning from a variety of world’s faith traditions as we shape our spirituality. In this session we will delve into them, their history, approach to the sacred, and the wisdom they offer us. Facilitated by Pat Shutts.

Spiritual Practices: Tools for Growing your Spirituality
April 15, 2021

Spiritual practices are a part of all religious traditions providing a rich treasure trove of possibilities to enrich our journeys. This session will explore some of them, including mindfulness, meditation, spiritual guidance (direction), the celtic tradition of soul friends or “anam cara” and a variety of prayer forms. Facilitated by Pat Shutts and Jim Gill.

Holy Pondering: Day of Reflection
Sunday, May 23, 2021
9:00am - 4:00pm

This concluding Day of Reflection will give you the opportunity to recall what has been explored throughout the series and to integrate it for your journey into an ever-deepening experience of the sacred. The mid-day meal is included. Facilitated by Miriam Brown, OP and Jim Gill.

Miriam Brown, OP, a Sinsinawa Dominican, is a spiritual guide, retreat facilitator, presenter on current spirituality themes, and was a team member of the Center’s Spiritual Guidance Training Program for over ten years. She has a master’s degree in Religious Studies from Fordham University and directed an ecumenical organization for 13 years. Miriam has an eye for the Spirit’s movement in the world and flowing by each person’s precious life.

Jim Gill has ministered in parishes in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and taught in continuing education programs at area colleges and seminaries. Jim holds an MA in Spirituality from the Institute in Creation Centered Spirituality at Mundelein College – Chicago.   He is a spiritual guide and an Associate of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

Pat Shutts is a retreat leader, program presenter, and spiritual guide. She has training in bereavement ministry and holds a master’s degree in Pastoral Studies. Pat brings her gifts of creativity, compassionate listening, and trust in the Spirit’s work in all of life.
