Spirit and Soul: African American Spirituality in Today’s Times

African American Spirituality has helped Black peoples in the United States cope with challenges of racism, oppression, isolation as well as been the source for their continued ability to seek and find strength and joy in the midst of their daily lives.  This interactive day will offer an opportunity to encounter the spirituality of African peoples in the United States through prayer, song, movement, storytelling and art.  Join us for an unforgettable experience of Spirit and Soul.

C. Vanessa White, MA, chairs the Department of Spirituality and Pastoral Ministry and directs the Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry Program at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.  She is a national leader among Black Catholic theologians and organizes annual pilgrimages to the sites related to Fr. Augustus Tolton, the nation’s first Black Catholic priest.  Vanessa has published and collaborated on numerous articles and projects related to Black Catholic life and spirituality.  She is a retreat leader, workshop facilitator, and spiritual guide.
